There are many ways to build a computer.  Today, we will start with the easiest, the desktop.  The desktop is a tower that will live under your desk.  It will be impossible for you to upgrade after you build it, but its upgradable components make it very flexible in terms of future upgrades.  For example, if you buy video card with dual video slots, you can upgrade it twice.  Likewise, some motherboards has 6 SATA ports which  enought for 3 HDDs and 3 SSDs  without switching out cables.

You will need (a) a motherboard, (b) a CPU, (c) an amount of RAM, (d) a power supply, (e) a case, (f) one or more hard drives, and (g) either a graphics card or motherboard with on-board graphics.
