The term "monitor" means something different than you might think. So let's make sure we are all on the same page when I use the term "monitor test."

A monitor test is a way of determining whether or not your power supply unit is functioning properly. A power supply unit (PSU) is the box located on most desktop PCs that provides the power to all of the other components. It's very important to the operation of your computer. If it fails, then your computer may not work at all.

As a simple test, you can use a voltmeter (a device used to measure electric voltage) to see if the voltages shown on your power supply's label are actually being produced.
