Damaged laptop battery - Symptoms and Causes
A damaged laptop battery could cause any of the following symptoms: No power (or no charge) at all. Faulty battery meter that shows a full or empty battery when it is in fact empty or full. Battery cycles through normal operation then suddenly shut off without warning. Cracked plastic casing and/or swollen battery around the outside edges and/or bottom of the laptop.
The cause is almost always due to direct physical damage or corrosion from liquids or from being left with a dead battery for an extended period of time. The direct physical damage can be from dropping the laptop, getting it wet, or breaking the plastic casing. One of the most common causes is from spilling liquids on the battery contacts or around the battery itself.
