How to determine if you need more RAM
There's no shortage of ways to put more memory in your computer. You used to have to take it in to the IT department and pay some pretty good coin for the privilege, but the PC repair shops that deal in the business of upgrading computers have been offering RAM upgrades for years. If you're comfortable doing your own PC repair jobs, you can buy memory for any kind of machine and install it yourself.
Mac has 4 GB of RAM installed, but that's not the total amount of memory the computer is capable of recognizing. If you look inside your System Information, you'll see that the "maximum memory" statistic is actually 8 GB. So what's the difference? Well, unless you have 4 GB or more of installed RAM, your Mac can't use the extra RAM by default.
